Tier List Breakdown

S Tier: Elite Performers

S tier heroes are the best in Whiteout Survival, excelling in Exploration, Expedition, and PvP. Twenty-nine heroes sit in this tier, and the newest generations hold most of the top spots:

  • Eleanor (Gen 17, Marksman): The strongest of the three Gen 17 heroes and the current first pick for a marksman march.
  • Seigel (Gen 16, Infantry): Cuts the damage your infantry takes from both normal attacks and enemy skills.
  • Jeronimo (Gen 1, Infantry): Still holds up years later, with stun and damage boosts that make him a rally staple.

Invest here for competitive play, and put your resources into Gen 16 and Gen 17 first if your server is old enough to have them.

A Tier: Strong but Strategic

A tier heroes are powerful but need the right march around them. Thirteen heroes sit here. Examples include:

  • Bertha (Gen 17, Lancer): A role upgrade rather than a must-buy, worth it if lancers lead your march.
  • Gisela (Gen 13, Infantry): Holds a defensive line well and is easier to reach than the newer infantry.
  • Gordon (Gen 7, Lancer): Reliable mid-game lancer for players who have not reached the newer generations.

These heroes shine with strategic planning, making them great for most players.

B Tier: Solid for Beginners

B tier heroes are beginner-friendly and fall off in advanced play. Most are Gen 1 and Gen 2:

  • Molly (Gen 1, Lancer): Everyone gets her free early on, and she carries the first weeks before Mia replaces her.
  • Gina (Gen 1, Marksman): Good for hunting beasts, less effective in PvP.
  • Flint (Gen 2, Infantry): Fine early defence, outclassed the moment Gen 5 opens.

C and D Tiers: Niche or Outdated

C and D tier heroes are early-game filler. Level them only while you wait for something better:

  • C Tier (Sergey and Bahiti at Gen 1, Seo-yoon, Smith, Patrick, Ahmose): Niche roles that newer heroes cover better.
  • D Tier (Cloris, Eugene and Charlie, all Gen 1): Not worth the resources beyond the opening days.

Focus on S and A tiers for long-term success, as C and D tiers are largely outdated.

Why Hero Tiers Matter

Heroes in Whiteout Survival determine your success in combat and resource management. S tier heroes like Eleanor and Seigel provide the best damage and utility, while A and B tiers offer strategic or beginner-friendly options. C and D tiers, though less relevant, can still serve niche roles early on. Choosing the right heroes saves resources and boosts your progress in the frozen wasteland.

Gen 13 to Gen 17 Heroes

These five generations are the current meta and they unlock by server age, not by your furnace level: Gen 13 at day 920, Gen 14 at 1000, Gen 15 at 1080, Gen 16 at 1160 and Gen 17 at day 1240. Each one adds three SSR heroes, one per class.

  • Gen 13: Gisela (Infantry), Flora (Lancer), Vulcanus (Marksman).
  • Gen 14: Elif (Infantry), Dominic (Lancer), Cara (Marksman).
  • Gen 15: Hank (Infantry), Estrella (Lancer), Viveca (Marksman).
  • Gen 16: Seigel (Infantry), Ursar (Lancer), Aisling (Marksman). Aisling is the pick if you spend little, because she comes off the Lucky Wheel rather than the paid bundles.
  • Gen 17: Aiden (Infantry), Bertha (Lancer), Eleanor (Marksman). Eleanor is the strongest of the three. Aiden and Bertha are worth it only if they upgrade the class you already march.

A new generation lands roughly every 80 days, so the top of this list moves about four times a year. Older heroes stay useful in second and third marches long after they leave S tier.

Conclusion

This hero tier list covers every SSR hero in Whiteout Survival through Gen 17. Put your resources into S tier first, fill the other two marches from A tier, and keep B tier only for the early game. The list moves every 80 days, so check back when a new generation opens. To skip the daily grind behind all of it, consider a Whiteout Survival bot or purchasing pre-leveled accounts to fast-track your journey. We update this page as each new generation lands.
