What are the three factions in Dark War Survival?

Dark War Survival has three factions: Fighter, Rider, and Shooter. Every hero belongs to one of these factions, and every formation contains five heroes. The faction labels matter because they determine counter advantages and whether the formation receives the same-faction ATK and DEF bonus.

All three factions have the same base stats. Fighter does not start with better base values than Rider, and Shooter does not begin weaker than Fighter. Their differences come from the counter matchup between factions, not an inherent stat advantage.

This gives every faction one favorable matchup and one unfavorable matchup. A formation therefore needs more than high CP. Its faction mix also determines how it interacts with the opposing formation.

Which faction counters which?

The counter order follows a closed triangle. Fighter counters Rider, Rider counters Shooter, and Shooter counters Fighter. Reading the triangle in that order makes it easier to remember. Each faction has an advantage over the next faction, while the remaining faction has an advantage over it.

The advantage is a percentage combat modifier that activates when the correct faction meets the faction it counters. It is separate from the factions’ base stats. A Fighter hero does not have higher base stats simply because Fighter counters Rider. The favorable modifier applies because of that specific matchup.

Use this table from the opponent’s side. Find the faction you need to answer, then choose the faction that counters it. Do not assume that the formation with the larger displayed CP automatically has the better faction matchup.

What is the same-faction formation bonus, and why stop at 3 heroes?

A formation receives +15% ATK and +15% DEF when at least three of its five heroes share a faction. The bonus applies to the entire formation. For example, three Fighters in the same lineup activate the bonus even if the remaining two heroes come from other factions.

Three is the important threshold because the faction percentage does not increase when you add a fourth or fifth hero from the same faction. A lineup with three matching heroes gets the same +15% ATK and +15% DEF formation bonus as a lineup with four or five matching heroes.

The fourth and fifth matching heroes can still add raw CP. They simply do not raise the faction bonus beyond +15% ATK and +15% DEF. This distinction matters because it separates the minimum faction core from the rest of the formation. Once three heroes match, the other two positions can be judged by what they add beyond the already active bonus.

A practical starting point is a three-hero faction core. This secures the full same-faction multiplier while leaving two positions available for stronger raw CP or other verified army-wide benefits.

Should the 5th slot be a 4th same-faction hero or an exclusive weapon?

The fifth slot presents a direct trade-off. A fourth or fifth same-faction hero can contribute raw CP, but it does not increase the +15% ATK and +15% DEF faction multiplier. The alternative is to choose the fifth hero around an exclusive weapon that improves the whole army.

At a 4-star exclusive weapon breakthrough, the verified army-wide bonuses are approximately +4.6% Troop DMG and +4.6% Troop HP. Together, these have been estimated at approximately a 9.4% effective power increase. These are army-wide multipliers, not bonuses limited to the hero carrying the weapon.

Compare the actual value of those two options for the heroes and weapons you have. If the extra matching hero is your stronger CP choice, keeping that hero can make sense. If the exclusive weapon has reached the listed breakthrough, its army-wide Troop DMG and Troop HP can justify using a hero outside the three-hero faction core.

This decision does not change the counter triangle. Your three matching heroes still establish the formation bonus, and Fighter, Rider, and Shooter retain their normal counter relationships.
