Tiles Survive Guide: What to Upgrade and Which Troops to Train
This guide settles the two choices that cause most stalled bases: what to upgrade first and how to build a troop mix that fits your next fight.
What should you upgrade first in Tiles Survive?
Upgrade the Power Plant first. Power keeps the other facilities working, so the Power Plant sets the pace for the rest of your settlement. Keep improving it instead of treating it as a one-time requirement.
After that, work on the bottleneck that is holding back your base. The exact choice can change as your needs change, but a simple priority order keeps your upgrades focused:
- Raise the Power Plant and keep it at the front of your upgrade plan.
- Improve storage alongside your food, wood and metal production.
- Upgrade Housing when you need room for more survivors.
- Expand toward the resource your settlement lacks.
- Raise the Barracks and complete the needed Laboratory research before pushing into higher troop tiers.
This order gives you a useful rule without locking you into a rigid build path. The Power Plant always comes first. The next upgrade should remove the limit you can see right now, whether that is storage, production, survivor capacity or access to a needed resource.
Which resources matter, and how do you stop wasting them?
Your three core resources are food, wood and metal, which may also be called iron. Watch all three, but direct new upgrades and tile expansion toward whichever one is currently slowing your progress.
Production alone is not enough. Storage must grow with it. When production runs past your storage limit, the extra resources are wasted. An upgrade that increases output can therefore do less for your base than expected if storage has fallen behind.
Pair the two jobs. When you improve your food buildings, wood production or metal production, check whether storage can hold the added supply. If storage is already tight, raise it before adding more output. This keeps your production useful and gives you more room to prepare for later upgrades.
Tile expansion should follow the same logic. New tiles reveal resources, so expand toward the resource you are short of. A base that lacks wood should favor a path toward wood. If metal becomes the next limit, change direction and work toward metal instead.
How should you lay out your base and use your survivors?
Place the Power Plant and the Kitchen near the middle of your base. Survivors need to reach these buildings, and a central position keeps the route short from more parts of the settlement.
Housing controls how many survivors you can hold. Since survivors do the work around your base, Housing is part of your working capacity, not just extra space. If your survivor capacity is holding back the settlement, improve Housing before adding upgrades that need more workers to support them.
Keep the layout centered on access and the upgrade plan centered on capacity. The Power Plant and Kitchen belong near the middle. Housing gives you room for more survivors. Expansion should point toward the resource you need next. These choices help the settlement work as one system instead of as a collection of unrelated buildings.
What troops should you train, and in what order?
Your army has three troop types with clear positions. Guards form the frontline. Gunners deal steady damage from the middle. Marksmen deliver burst damage from the back, but they are fragile and need Guards in front of them.
| Troop type | Baseline share | Job |
|---|---|---|
| Guards | 40 to 50 percent | Hold the frontline and protect the troops behind them |
| Gunners | 30 to 40 percent | Deal steady damage from the middle |
| Marksmen | 20 to 30 percent | Deal burst damage from the back |
Build the frontline first. Train enough Guards to reach the baseline range, then add Gunners, followed by Marksmen. As the army grows, check the full mix rather than training equal amounts of every type. Fill whichever group is below its target range.
Adjust that baseline for the content you plan to play. For PvE, lean toward more Gunners for steady damage. For PvP, lean toward Guards so the formation can survive longer, then save your Marksmen for the enemy backline.
The Barracks trains your troops, so keep it running. Before spending heavily on a higher troop tier, check the full gate. Raise the Power Plant and Barracks first, then finish the tier research in the Laboratory. Training before those requirements are ready can spend resources on troops you cannot field at the tier you paid for.
If you want the routine handled for you, the Tiles Survive bot runs the daily part of this base and troop work on your account.
What does Laboratory research change?
The Laboratory deserves steady investment because its research improves the base over time. Economy research raises your daily resource output. That gain compounds as you keep playing, so early economy work continues helping later upgrades.
The Laboratory also completes the path to higher troop tiers. Do not treat its research as separate from the Power Plant and Barracks. Prepare those two buildings first, then finish the needed tier research before you commit resources to training at the higher level.
When your base stalls, check both sides of the Laboratory. Economy research may help fix a slow daily resource flow. Tier research may be the remaining gate after the Power Plant and Barracks are ready. Steady research keeps both the settlement and the army moving forward.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the most important building in Tiles Survive?
The Power Plant is the most important building. Power lets the other facilities work, so upgrade the Power Plant first and keep improving it.
What is a good troop mix?
A competitive baseline is 40 to 50 percent Guards, 30 to 40 percent Gunners and 20 to 30 percent Marksmen. Keep Guards in front, Gunners in the middle and Marksmen in the back.
Should you train more Guards or Gunners?
For PvE, lean toward more Gunners for steady damage. For PvP, lean toward Guards for survival and use Marksmen against the enemy backline.
Why should storage be upgraded?
Storage holds the food, wood and metal your base produces. When production overruns storage, the extra resources are wasted, so storage and production should improve together.
