Chief Gear unlocks at Furnace 22 and uses four materials: Hardened Alloy, Polishing Solution, Design Plans and Lunar Amber. The calculator under the chart adds up any range for one to six pieces.
One piece costs 1,500 Hardened Alloy and 15 Polishing Solution to craft. The price climbs to 180,000 alloy, 1,950 solution, 325 Design Plans and 40 Lunar Amber for the Red T4 3-star step. Taking one piece from crafting to Red T4 3 stars costs 2,150,500 alloy, 24,360 solution, 4,540 plans and 440 amber, and all six pieces cost the same.

What Is Chief Gear in Whiteout Survival?
Chief Gear is a set of six pieces that raise the Attack and Defense of one troop type in every march, whichever heroes lead it. It unlocks at Furnace 22, and each troop type gets two pieces.

Matching quality pays a set bonus. Three pieces of the same quality add Defense for all troops, and all six add Attack as well. One Red piece next to five Green pieces earns neither bonus, so keep the set even.
Where Do You Get Hardened Alloy and Polishing Solution?
Hardened Alloy comes from Polar Terror rallies (level 3 and up), level 22 and higher Beasts, Crazy Joe and the Alliance Championship Shop. Polishing Solution comes from Crazy Joe, Frostfire Mine and the Alliance Championship Shop.
Every step that uses both asks for roughly 80 to 100 alloy per Polishing Solution, so solution is usually the first material to run out. Never spend premium shop currency on alloy, since it has the most free sources.
Once one piece reaches Gold T2 3 stars, the Material Exchange opens. It turns 1,000 spare Hardened Alloy into 1 Design Plan.
How Do You Get Lunar Amber and Design Plans?
Lunar Amber comes from limited-time events and the Material Exchange, which trades 10 Design Plans for 1 Lunar Amber. The exchange opens once one of your pieces reaches Gold T2 3 stars.
Each step costs 10 amber at Red, 15 at Red T1, 20 at Red T2, 25 at Red T3 and 40 at Red T4. That adds up to 280 amber per piece to reach Red T3 3 stars. Bank every amber an event offers before your gear reaches Red.
Design Plans first appear at Blue 2 stars. You can buy them in the Alliance Championship Shop, Foundry Shop and Canyon Shop, and Crazy Joe pays them out too. Buy plans at every shop reset: from Gold up, every step costs 40 or more.
Which Chief Gear Should You Upgrade First?
Upgrade Infantry first, then Marksman, then Lancer, and keep all six pieces within one tier of each other.
- Infantry (Coat and Pants). Infantry stand in the front row and take the most damage.
- Marksman (Belt and Weapon). Marksmen deal the damage from the back row.
- Lancer (Cap and Watch). Lancers in the middle row take less direct fire.
Push the Infantry pieces one step ahead, then bring the other four up before you move on. Time big upgrades for the SvS preparation phase or King of Icefield, where the same upgrade also scores event points. Our SvS guide covers the prep days.
